REMINDER: There is NO Discussion Night this week

29 June 2010

Just a reminder that there will be no Pagan Discussion evening this month because the MPRC has decided to give our faaaabulous moderator the summer off to rest.

This also means there will be NO Pagan Discussion Night in July or August either. We should start again in September 2010.

Keep an eye on the MPRC website to stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest! Have a great summer!

New Pagan Podcast for Beginners

22 June 2010

Are you new to paganism? Navigating the books, the movies, the TV shows, the Internet, and wondering if anyone else is going through what you’re going through?

I discovered a new pagan podcast called Pagan Hooligans which is created by a married couple (Isaac and Jasmine) who are discovering paganism for the first time and chronicling their experiences in podcast form. The Pagan Hooligans podcast is a fascinating journey of spiritual discovery by two people who tackle it head-on and are unafraid and unabashed at sharing their experiences.

From their website:

The Pagan Hooligans podcast takes podcasting to a different place. Unlike other podcasting “experts”, we don’t pretend we know anything about our subject. The show is research based and in every show we give ourselves research projects for the next show. We then tell our listeners, what we learned about the subject and how it helped us in our quest for spirituality. We take on spirituality from day one and hopefully everyone will learn a little something.

I’m really enjoying their fresh insight on the basic concepts as they discover them, and it reminds me of my first experiences and the learning curves and hoops that I had to jump through. I hope you enjoy it!

Happy Summer Solstice!

18 June 2010

On behalf of the MPRC, I’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe summer solstice. May the Lord and Lady bless you and your loved ones with a happy, healthy, fun summer!

Unfortunately, due to a variety of scheduling conflicts, we haven’t been able to prepare a Public Litha ritual for the community. Maybe we could have something in July like a community picnic in Angrignon park instead? We’ll look into that.

Happy Summer Solstice to all, and to all a good day!

Montreal to host Gaia Gathering in 2011

2 June 2010

The Board of Directors of Gaia Gathering-The Canadian National Pagan Conference is very pleased to announce that Montreal, Quebec will be the host city for the 2011 conference to be held over the May Long Weekend, May 20th – 23rd, 2011.

The Host Team has put together an exciting plan for the conference. The proposed theme for 2011 will be “Language to Liturgy”. This theme reflects the cultural diversity of Montreal and reflects upon how language itself can affect our practices and beliefs. What better a city to do this in then Montreal where the two solitudes of English and French collide in a multicultural kaleidoscope?

The host team is comprised of energetic and dedicated community leaders. Amanda Strong, Hobbes, Robyn Stroll and T.Scarlet Jory are planning several fun, community building fund raisers in order to ensure that the momentum, energy and cash are available to provide an exciting and worthwhile conference.

Please stay tuned for exciting updates from the Gaia Board and Montreal Host team.

We look forward to seeing you in Montreal! Mark your calendars!

Pagan Discussion: Leadership in Alternative Spiritualities

1 June 2010

The MPRC holds public discussions on random subjects pertaining to paganism and/or alternative beliefs every first Thursday of the month. The structure remains open and informal where everyone’s opinion is welcomed.

Our upcoming discussion:

Topic: Leadership in Alternative Spiritualities (Gurus, Shamans, Prophets, Founders, etc.)
Date: June 3rd 2010
Location: (MPRC) Mélange Magique boutique; 1928 Ste-Catherine Ouest, Montreal
Cost: Free (change donations welcomed to support MPRC’s community activities)

Let’s Discuss:

- What made historical figures spiritual/religious leaders? (Sanders, Gardner, Bonewits, Crowley, Levi, Gandhi, Buddha, Confucius, Muhammad, etc.)
- Who are the key figures in Paganism and Alternative Spiritualities today?
o Local, Regional, National, Global
- Is spiritual leadership something that stems from wanting society to “change”?
- What is expected of Leadership today and is Leadership about sacrifice?
- Where did all the Leaders go?
- Are we moving towards times in which such leadership is no longer required?
- Etc.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
There will be no discussions for the months of July and August due to the crazy summer festivities and holidays.

Stay tuned for the upcoming topics in September 2010.
