Posters and Flyers for Pagan Rhythms

13 May 2011

Gaia Gathering is now officially one week away. Incredible! There’s still so much to do and it’s going to be awesome.

As you may know, Saturday night we are featuring a concert with the Dragon Ritual Drummers and Triskalia as the opening act. Have you heard about this? You can read more about it here, and on Facebook.

We have some flyers and posters available, so if you’d be willing to print up some of them and distribute them this weekend, we would be so grateful for your support. You can download the file (which is a ZIP file of PDF documents, so no viruses, we promise) that contains the English and French versions of the flyer and poster.

Let us know where you intend to put these up and thanks again for your support.

About Gaia Gathering
=======================

http://www.gaiagathering.ca/

The Canadian National Pagan Conference (CNPC), Gaia Gathering, is held every year over the long Victoria Day weekend in May. Each year, the event is hosted by a different city, which is determined through a bid and vote process. Gaia Gathering is a place where people from across Canada and from across the spectrum of this country’s Pagan religions an come together to talk about who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we might be going as a religious community in Canada.

Past host cities include Edmonton, Halifax, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Vancouver. The conference features three days of discussion and workshops about Canadian contemporary Paganism – our Asatru, our Druidry, our Wicca and so on — and brings together Canadian elders, community leaders, and interested Pagans or Pagan-curious for networking, discussion, and community. Legally, we are incorporated federally as a non-profit organization and operate with a national Board of Directors as well as a local host committee.

Gaia Gathering: Canadian National Pagan Conference

Theme: Language to Liturgy

CALL FOR PAPERS

Gaia Gathering was founded in 2004 and had its first conference in 2005. Each year the conference is hosted over the Victoria Day long weekend in a different Canadian city through a bidding process similar to the Olympics. Past host cities include Edmonton, Halifax, Winnipeg, Ottawa and Vancouver. Legally, we are incorporated federally as a non-profit organization and operate with a national Board of Directors as well as a local host committee.

The conference is organized collaboratively by Canadian Pagans and includes three-days of discussion and workshops about Canadian Paganisms. After six years of traveling across the country, the conference is finally coming to Montreal’s Concordia University! The proposed theme for 2011 will be “Language to Liturgy”, which reflects the cultural diversity of Montreal and how language itself can affect our practices and beliefs.

Our keynote speakers are Lucie Dufresne, Professor at the University of Ottawa, speaking on Language, and Arin Murphy-Hiscock, published author and Priestess, speaking on Liturgy. We are also planning an opening multifaith panel on the Friday night and live entertainment on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Conference will be held Spring 2011 (May 20-23)

SUBMISSION CRITERIA

We invite papers and proposals from all faculties within the humanities who touch into the realm of alternate spirituality, Paganism, New Religious Movements and related subjects. We hope to see students rise to the challenge and welcome them to this opportunity to present here in Montreal with like-minded individuals.

Submissions may be sent via mail or e-mail and are to be no more than one page. They must include a publication-ready, titled abstract of 150-200 words. The name, address, telephone numbers, e-mail address, college or university affiliation and level of study of the presenter(s) must also be included. Any special requests or needs for audio-visual equipment must also be indicated. We will be accepting submissions for peer and academic review between December 21st (Yule 2010) and March 20th (Ostara 2011). Abstracts and proposals (and thus presentations) may be in English or in French. All received submissions will be acknowledged, with notification of acceptance, by mid-April 2011.

Service/Product Auction for Gaia Gathering

8 November 2010

The members of our community are so generous and talented, and they are ready to share their talents with you! During the annual Yule Fair (sponsored by Le Melange Magique and the MPRC), the CNPC Gaia Gathering fund-raising committee are proud to present the Service/Product Auction Fundraiser for the CNPC Gaia Gathering conference.

This unique fund-raising event gives you the opportunity to connect directly with artists and other resourceful people. They have generously offered their work, their time, and their services, putting them up for the highest bidder.

This bilingual event will be hosted by the larger-than-life personalities of Taras Stasiuk and Francois Champagne. It will be their job to promote the products, as well as entertain the bidders during this once-in-a-lifetime event!

All the proceeds from this event go to help fund the CNPC Gaia Gathering that is to take place in May 2011 in Montreal. If you have a product, service, or talent you would like to auction off, please let us know.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, December 4th (8pm) in the Auditorium at Atwater Library and may the highest bid win!

Visit the Facebook Event page.

Gaia’s Bardic a Success!

25 October 2010

This past Saturday night, Atwater Library was host to an evening of music, storytelling, and more than a few surprises! If you missed it, you really denied yourself a rare treat. You shouldn’t deny yourself such pleasures… you deserve better!

We had over 50 people in the audience that night, and thanks to their generosity and mathematical formulas that I’ve never been very good at, we raised over $600 for the Gaia Gathering conference. Amazing!

As with all pagan events, we started the evening about 15 minutes late (logistics and waiting for certain people), but once we got going, we found it difficult to stop! The evening’s entertainment included:

All the performances were amazing and the audience were very appreciative and responsive.

As for surprises, well here’s one that caught everyone by surprise. One of the performers couldn’t make it that night, so when we were approached by Kanaska offering to sing a couple of songs, we found room in the evening for her.

She. was. amazing. The beautiful passion and raw power that came from this woman and her guitar floored the room. After each song, the audience went crazy with applause and cheers. She added something to that evening that we were hoping for, but not to that degree: magic.

From that evening, we already have 4 people signed up for the conference and many more people interested in finding out more about it. It was a great kick-off event to lead into and help promote the Montreal edition of Gaia Gathering.

A few people recorded the evening with their cameras and have posted them on YouTube:

The next big event for Gaia Gathering is the Service/Product auction to take place the first weekend of December. Stay tuned for more information about it!
