Gaia’s Bardic a Success!

25 October 2010

This past Saturday night, Atwater Library was host to an evening of music, storytelling, and more than a few surprises! If you missed it, you really denied yourself a rare treat. You shouldn’t deny yourself such pleasures… you deserve better!

We had over 50 people in the audience that night, and thanks to their generosity and mathematical formulas that I’ve never been very good at, we raised over $600 for the Gaia Gathering conference. Amazing!

As with all pagan events, we started the evening about 15 minutes late (logistics and waiting for certain people), but once we got going, we found it difficult to stop! The evening’s entertainment included:

All the performances were amazing and the audience were very appreciative and responsive.

As for surprises, well here’s one that caught everyone by surprise. One of the performers couldn’t make it that night, so when we were approached by Kanaska offering to sing a couple of songs, we found room in the evening for her.

She. was. amazing. The beautiful passion and raw power that came from this woman and her guitar floored the room. After each song, the audience went crazy with applause and cheers. She added something to that evening that we were hoping for, but not to that degree: magic.

From that evening, we already have 4 people signed up for the conference and many more people interested in finding out more about it. It was a great kick-off event to lead into and help promote the Montreal edition of Gaia Gathering.

A few people recorded the evening with their cameras and have posted them on YouTube:

The next big event for Gaia Gathering is the Service/Product auction to take place the first weekend of December. Stay tuned for more information about it!

Putting posters up for the Bardic and the Ball

10 October 2010

We’ve had bilingual posters made for the following events and we’re asking our supporters to put these posters up in places where they will be seen:

  • Montreal Witches Masquerade Ball (thanks be to Alex for designing the poster)
  • Gaia Bardic Fundraiser (thanks be to Crystal for designing the poster and flyers)

The posters have been brought to the two following places for you to pick up:

  • Charme & Sortilege (4933 Rue de Grand-Pré, Montréal)
  • Le Melange Magique (1928 Ste. Catherine Street West)

When putting these posters up, please do NOT put them on illegal places like mailboxes, telephone poles, parking meters, bus shelters, etc. If our posters are found in these places, we could be fined up to $1500.  For the Witches Ball: if Sala Rossa finds out that the posters have been put in illegal places, we could lose our rights to use their space for this event. So please BE CAREFUL when putting the posters up.

Keep in mind that these events are on October 23rd (the Gaia Bardic) and  on October 29th (the Witches Ball), which is not far away. The sooner we get these posters up, the better. Good places to put posters up include:

  • Universities
  • CEGEPS
  • Community centres
  • Cafes
  • Grocery stores
  • Pharmacies

Thanks for your support!

Isaac Bonewits Public Memorial

13 August 2010

In honor of our revered Neo-Pagan Elder Isaac Bonewits (http://www.adf.org/about/leaders/isaac-bonewits/), who passed away on Thorsday, Augustus 12th 2010, we are holding an ADF Druid style memorial rite on Wodensday Augustus 18th in Angrignon Park at 7pm (6:30pm arrival). The ritual will be led by Linda Demissy, former Senior Druid of Silver Fox Grove, ADF.

Everyone is invited to join and make a short bardic offering, sacrifice of a crafted item or food, or retell their encounter with Isaac (even if it’s just by reading one of his books).

ADF rites are basically a “party” where Gods, Ancestors and Nature Spirits are invited and made offering to, through the gates of the triple centre, Fire of the Gods, Well of the Ancestors, and Tree of Life. An omen is then cast to determine how the offerings were received, and if well received, the ritual drink is blessed and shared.

In this case, we will ask for the blessings to go to Isaac. Bridget will be called at the start of the ritual for bardic inspiration, the Dagda at the centre of the rite, and the Morrigan to help carry him with blessings to the Otherworld. These three deities were those he loved best.

We will be passing the hat to help his family pay for his large medical bills, and you may want to bring some coins to drop into the cauldron during the Ancestors offerings. Bring instruments, drums, your voices and food to share.
